Wing Foil is a new discipline in the world of water sports, consisting of a Wing, which is a handheld sail, and a board with a hydrofoil on which we levitate (float) above the water. The Wing is gaining popularity due to its compact size – the board is short and the foil, once disassembled, fits into a small quiver. The Wing is inflatable, so when deflated, it fits into a small backpack, making it easy to travel with. On the water, it is lightweight and requires relatively little wind to sail. All of this contributes to the rapid development of the sport and the race among wing companies to produce better equipment.
The first Wing sessions take place on the beach. Here, you’ll learn how the Wing works, how we generate power, and you’ll familiarize yourself with safety principles. Once you’ve mastered the Wing, you’re ready to hit the water on a board! For the initial sessions, we use a windsurfing board because it’s very stable and will allow you to maintain balance easily during your first rides. This will enable you to focus on adjusting the Wing on the reach, practice sailing downwind and upwind, and train your turns. Once you feel comfortable with the Wing on the windsurfing board and have mastered all the elements, it’s time to switch to the hydrofoil board.
The hydrofoil board is one of the most technologically advanced water sports equipment. Hydrofoils are used in almost all disciplines such as kitesurfing, windsurfing, foil surfing, sailing (boats, catamarans), because the wing, at the right speed and control, starts to lift the board above the water surface (levitation), detaching it from the water and reducing drag to a minimum, allowing for fast sailing even in light winds. Thanks to this, on the Wing, we can already hover at 10 knots. Levitation itself is a great feeling; it feels like flying over the water on a magic carpet. There’s silence because the board doesn’t hit the water; it glides above it.
To master Wing Foiling, sailing in levitation on both tacks, you need a few hours with an instructor, and once you reach an intermediate level, you need to spend a lot of time on the water, gaining experience and trying new maneuvers. Only in this way can you make real progress.
