Kitesurfing

Kitesurfing is one of the easier and more beautiful water sports. We use a kite as our propulsion and a board to ride on. To master kitesurfing, you need about 10-15 hours of lessons. Our professional IKO (International Kiteboarding Organization) instructors will guide you through the lessons in a safe and enjoyable manner, tailoring the training to your abilities.

At SKYHIGH Watersports Center, we use the latest, safest, and most progressive training system, allowing you to use an inflatable kite from your very first lesson.

First steps

In the initial hours of training, we’ll be using a bar with short lines (even 2.5m long lines), which makes the kite have very little power, meaning it doesn’t pull much and is extremely safe, but it’s controlled in the same way as a bar with long lines. This innovation in the training system also allows for children to be trained through play from as young as 6-7 years old and relatively low mass.

Another positive aspect of the IKO system is the aim to become an independent kitesurfer. Our instructors will show you how to consciously control the kite and teach you full control with all safety elements (SAFETY SYSTEM). Once you reach this stage, after completing all exercises on kite control, we move on to various body-drag variations.

Body-drag

Body-drag is an integral part of kite surfing. It involves moving through the water without a board, utilizing the power of the kite. We use it to navigate across the water, for example, to retrieve the board or return to shore when the wind dies down. Practicing body-drags is one of the more exciting stages of training because it’s when the student first feels the pull of the kite and learns to control it. Once you’ve completed all the exercises related to body-dragging, you’ll start putting on the board and attempting your first rides.

Start with board

Starting with the board is one of the more challenging aspects during training, as here the student must control the kite while simultaneously focusing on the correct positioning of the board. Synchronizing the hands and feet at the beginning can be difficult, but after a while, you get used to it, and suddenly everything starts to work.

Once you start getting the hang of launches, we’ll smoothly transition to mastering the technique of riding the board with the wind and controlled stops. Then you’ll learn how to ride upwind, which is our ultimate goal in training.

Upwind ride

Riding upwind allows for freely controlling the course and provides the ability to return to the same spot on the beach where you started.

Once you’ve mastered the above elements, you’ll become a true kitesurfer, opening up vast possibilities offered by this sport, such as freestyle elements, riding switch, jumps, wave riding, known as kitewave, and lately, the highly popular Foil, which involves levitating on a board with a hydrofoil wing.

Spot

The spot where we conduct our training – Porto Botte, is characterized by azure shallow water with sandy bottom, a sandy beach, and side-on shore wind direction, which is perfect for both training and riding. Thanks to the thermal winds and the Venturi effect (V-effect), our spot Porto Botte ensures good wind conditions for kitesurfing every day. Statistics show that our spot has wind blowing on 70% of the days in the month.

Our spot is an Authorized Kitesurfing Zone – KITE ZONE ONLY, designated exclusively for kitesurfers, while windsurfers sail in a different area, ensuring safety and a kite-friendly environment. You’ll also find a shaded chill-out area where you can take a break from the sun.

Additionally, we have a floating unit – RESCUE, which ensures your safety on the water.
