Windsurfing

pink line

Windsurfing is a water sport that involves sailing, similar to sailing a yacht but using different equipment. To practice windsurfing, we use a buoyant board similar to a surfboard and a sail, which acts as our propulsion. Windsurfing can be done in virtually all wind conditions; even at 1 knot, we can move from side to side at a low speed. Light wind conditions are excellent for beginners to start learning windsurfing, as it’s easier to balance on the board and control the sail. Windsurfing is the perfect introduction to water sports for children, with training starting as early as 4 years old, all done in a fun and playful manner.

Theory

We always start our lessons with theory on the beach. The instructor will explain how the sail and board work, talk about the body position on the board, where to place your feet, and how to tilt the sail to sail away from the shore, make a turn, and return to the same spot.

Once you’ve mastered the theory on the beach, it’s time for balance training. This will be your first contact with the board, without the sail, in the water. The instructor will show you how to properly get on the board, where to place your feet, and how to move on it. When you feel the balance, you’re ready for your first sailing with the sail.

First steps on the water and maintaining course

When you manage to lift the sail out of the water for the first time and sail even a few meters, you’ll understand how enjoyable this sport is. From now on, progress will be very rapid. You’ll learn to maintain course, make turns, which means turning around, and sail in the opposite direction. Windsurfing as a sport has a very positive effect on the development of arm and leg muscles and develops deep muscles responsible for balance.

Board planing

As the wind starts to pick up, windsurfing becomes a bit more physically demanding but offers a lot more excitement and even adrenaline. The more you sail, the more you strive to get your board planing, which means accelerating it to a speed where it glides over the water.

Planing ride opens up many new possibilities and windsurfing options such as freestyle, which involves jumps and maneuvers in the air or on the water, wave riding, similar to surfing but with a sail, and hydrofoil, which involves levitating on a hydrofoil.
